PETALING JAYA: Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd (MHI) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Tenaga Nasional Bhd unit TNB Power Generation Sdn Bhd (TNB Genco) to conduct studies and exchange information on clean energy technologies.
The MoU will facilitate Malaysia’s energy transition and support the country’s aim to achieve carbon neutrality in 2050, according to an MHI statement released today.
Under the agreement, MHI, supported by its power solutions brand Mitsubishi Power, and TNB Genco will explore three key areas related to power generation.
The areas comprise hydrogen and ammonia value chain in relation to hydrogen production and supply, logistics, storage and related infrastructure; low carbon fuel co-combustion technology in thermal plants; and CO2 capture.
Apart from those, the two groups will mutually exchange learning experiences pertaining to the advancement of healthier power generation in Malaysia.
“Mitsubishi Power has been actively involved in Malaysia’s power generation projects since the 1960s.
“We look forward to extending our support and strengthening partnership with TNB Genco to jointly explore capabilities around innovative energy technologies that help accelerate the country’s net- zero emission goals,” said Mitsubishi Power Asia Pacific managing director and CEO Akihiro Ondo.
This MoU reaffirms our continued commitment to develop technologies that help our partners in Malaysia and across Asia-Pacific deliver a sustainable future” he added.
The agreement strengthens the longstanding partnership between MHI, Mitsubishi Power, and TNB Genco, intensifying efforts to accomplish net-zero emissions by 2050.
This ambition is supported by a dedication to decrease 35% of emission intensity and 50% of coal generation capacity by 2035.
